This Week in IHSS
State Budget Alert. The Governor’s May revision proposes reducing authorized IHSS hours for some recipients. If your recipient’s hours are cut, they have the right to appeal. Contact your county IHSS office immediately.
Free Tax Prep Extended. VITA free tax preparation sites are open through June 15, 2025. If you haven’t filed yet, find a site at irs.gov/vita or call 211. You may be owed the Earned Income Tax Credit — worth up to $7,430.
SEIU 2015 Scholarship. Applications are open for the SEIU 2015 education scholarship — up to $2,000 for IHSS providers pursuing education or job training. Apply at seiu2015.org.
Rights Reminder
If your employer requires you to be on-call during sleep time, that time may be compensable. California courts have ruled that restricted sleep time must be paid if you cannot use it freely.
