The California Department of Social Services officially launched its free IHSS Provider Training Portal in January 2025, giving providers access to required training modules online.
What’s Available
- EVV Orientation (required for new providers)
- Safety and Infection Control (required annually)
- Recipient Rights and Privacy
- Preventing Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse
- Elective modules: Dementia Care, Mobility Assistance, Medication Reminders
Professional Caregiver Certificate
Providers who complete the full required curriculum plus three elective modules earn a California IHSS Professional Caregiver Certificate — a new credential that:
- Documents your training history
- May qualify you for higher pay under SEIU 2015 contract escalators
- Is recognized by participating counties as a professional credential
How to Access
- Visit cdss.ca.gov/ihss-training (or search “CDSS IHSS provider training”)
- Log in with your CDSS provider ID
- Complete modules at your own pace — all are available in English and Spanish
